I have a Masters in Public Health. I think infectious diseases are the bomb. I'm a beauty-seeker, love food, and adore a good book. Currently living and working in Baltimore (and missing New Orleans and Montreal). I save money only to spend it all as soon as I have enough to travel someplace cool. twitter.com/RaphaelleH

WTF? I thought the New Orleans heat and humidity in the summer of ‘09 (and in general) was ridiculous but Baltimore, you are totally rivalling it right now. Ugh.

The Rutgers geography department is heavily based around political ecology, which is the investigation of who has access to and control over natural resources. In virtually every class I’ve taken there, they mention over and over again that 1) there is no such thing as a natural disaster- vulnerability to hazards always reflects social and physical infrastructures 2) disasters’ effects always fall unevenly along lines of race, class, gender, and nationality. They always stress that any analysis of natural hazards (including climate change) is incomplete without incorporating those viewpoints. Maps like this are a great example of why.

So, um, my queued posts came out way ahead of time.

I am quite aware that it’s not winter yet. Sorry for bombarding you with gorgeous snowy pictures. Hopefully we’ll get winter wonderlands like that in a few months…
